General Contractor

General Contractors build or renovate residential, commercial, and other structures. Some contract for a variety of projects others specialize in one type. As a General Contractor, you are responsible for the entire project under the terms of the contract. You may do some of the work with your own crew but often subcontract to structural or specialty contractors, such as carpentry, electrical, heating, or plumbing.

Preparing for a career as a General Contractor at Baker includes classwork as well as externship opportunities that give you practical experience in the construction industry. Our instructors are industry professionals who teach you building concepts, methods and materials, as well as architectural drafting, computer-aided drafting (CAD), and cost estimating. You also take courses in other technical skills and general business that can help you advance in your career.

We get to learn with instructors who are out there in the field, and it’s very practical.
