Baker College opens the door to a nursing career that gives you a wide range of options and great potential for personal satisfaction, earnings, growth, and job security. As a Nurse, you can specialize in one or more areas of patient care and have opportunities for work in a variety of settings—from private homes to doctor’s offices to hospitals.
At Baker, you choose the nursing program that interests you. You can start your career as a licensed Practical Nurse or Nursing Aide, and then, if you want to advance, you can go back to school to receive your RN degree. Through our small classes and participatory learning programs, you gain the knowledge and the hands-on training and experience you need to take your exam and be eligible for licensure. Baker students experience a better than 90% pass rate on the Nursing Accreditation Exam.

- The average salary for Nursing Aides is $23,900. For Licensed Practical Nurses, the average is $38,900. For RNs, the average is about $62,400.
- Nursing is growing much faster than the average occupation. By 2016, employment of Registered Nurses is expected to grow 23 percent and, for Licensed Practical Nurses, growth should grow 14 percent.
- Most Nursing Aides and LPNs are generalists, who care for their patients in many different ways. They work in all areas of health care.
- Most RNs begin as staff Nurses in hospitals to gain experience. With good performance, they are promoted to higher level positions or move to other settings.
- Management-level nursing positions often require a graduate or an advanced degree in nursing or health services administration.
