Baker College Policies for Computer Use

By your use of Baker College computer equipment, you agree to abide by the Policy on the Proper Use of Information Resources, Information Technology, and Networks at Baker College and to the Information Systems Division: Conditions of Use Policy. The complete policies are available upon request, but some of the key details are below. Information Resources in this document are meant to include any information in electronic format or any hardware or software that make possible the storage and use of such information.

When you use resources owned or provided by the College, you agree to the following conditions:

To respect the privacy of other users; for example, you shall not intentionally seek information on, obtain copies of, or modify files or other data belonging to other users.

To respect the legal protection provided by copyright and licensing of programs and data; for example, you shall not make copies of a licensed computer program to avoid paying additional license fees or to share with other users.

To respect the intended usage of accounts; for example, you shall use accounts only for the purposes specified. Printing large amounts of unnecessary listings, using resources for playing games for recreational purposes, storing data on college storage media, and using computing resources for other than their intended use are all considered uses inconsistent with the instructional and administrative objectives of the College.

To respect the integrity of the system or network; alterations to any system, network software, or data component shall be made only under specific instructions from the Information Systems Division.

To respect the rights of other users. Standards of common sense apply to the use of any shared resource.

The college characterizes as unethical and unacceptable, and just cause for taking disciplinary action, any activity through which an individual:

Violates such matters as College or third-party copyright or patent protection and authorizations, as well as license agreements and other contracts, interferes with the intended use of the information resource, seeks to gain or gains unauthorized access to information resources, without authorization, destroys, alters, dismantles, disfigures, prevents rightful access to or otherwise interferes with the integrity of computer-based information and/or information resources, without authorization invades the privacy of individuals or entities that are creators, authors, users, or subjects of the information resources.

This statement on Conditions of Use is published in the spirit of mutual respect and cooperation that has been fostered at Baker College and is intended to promote the responsible, ethical, legal, and secure use of Information Systems resources for the protection of all users.
