How to Apply for a Federal Direct Loan
In order to apply for a Federal Direct loan, a student must first apply for financial aid. See How to Apply for Financial Aid for further information on this process.
Once a new Baker student has applied for financial aid, they will receive a Financial Aid Notification package from the Financial Aid Office in the mail. This notification package will inform them of their financial aid awards. If a student has been awarded a federal student loan, a loan request form will be included in the package. The request form will need to be completed and returned to the Financial Aid Office at the campus the student is enrolled before the loan process can begin.
Once the loan request has been processed by the Financial Aid Office, instructions will be sent to the student on where to locate online information at the Baker College website to complete the entrance loan counseling and/or Master Promissory Note (MPN), if needed. Federal regulations require students to complete entrance loan counseling prior to receiving his/her first federal student loan.
