Financial Aid
How to Apply for Financial Aid
There are several simple steps to follow in order to apply for financial aid. (Please note that the financial aid application is not used to apply for all scholarships. For more information about scholarships please visit the Scholarship Aid page.)
Note: There are various deadlines for financial aid applications. Some deadlines are school specific; others are specified according to the grant or scholarship criteria. For deadline information, you will need to speak to your Admissions Advisor or Financial Aid Officer.
Beginning with the 2008/2009 school year, students must complete the online Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to apply for financial aid.
Step 1: Before Beginning your Financial Aid Application
- In order to sign your financial aid application electronically, you and, if necessary, one parent must apply for a Personal Identification Number (PIN). Although you can apply for a PIN while completing the FAFSA, it is recommended that you apply for your PIN prior to completing the FAFSA.
- Complete the FAFSA on the Web Worksheet. The questions on the worksheet follow the order of the questions on the web application. It is a tool to help students and parents determine the appropriate answers to the FAFSA questions before logging in and completing the application online. This worksheet is not required and is not the financial aid application, but it is recommended you complete this worksheet before applying online.
- For more information on the financial aid application process, access the FAFSA website at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
Step 2: Complete your FAFSA Application
- Fill out the FAFSA online
- Include the appropriate Baker College school code(s):

- Sign your FAFSA using your PIN (parents of dependent students will also need to sign by using their PIN)
Step 3: Complete the Application Process
- After your application is processed, you will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR) either by postal mail or email. If you provided your email address on the FAFSA application, you will receive an email with a link to your SAR within 5 days. Keep this SAR in a location that you can access it when necessary. You do not need to submit this SAR to the college unless it is specifically requested.
- Some students will be selected for verification by the Department of Education. If you are selected, you will receive a letter from our office requesting certain documentation. The requested documentation should be provided quickly to ensure timely awarding by our office.
