How to Apply for Financial Aid

There are several simple steps to follow in order to apply for financial aid. (Please note that the financial aid application is not used to apply for all scholarships. For more information about scholarships please visit the Scholarship Aid page.)

Note: There are various deadlines for financial aid applications. Some deadlines are school specific; others are specified according to the grant or scholarship criteria. For deadline information, you will need to speak to your Admissions Advisor or Financial Aid Officer.

Students must complete the online Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to apply for financial aid.

Step 1: Before Beginning your Financial Aid Application

  • In order to sign your financial aid application electronically, you and, if necessary, one parent must apply for a Personal Identification Number (PIN).

Although you can apply for a PIN while completing the FAFSA, it is recommended that you apply for your PIN prior to completing the FAFSA.

  • For more information on the financial aid application process, access the FAFSA web site at www.fafsa.gov.

Step 2: Complete your FAFSA Application

  • Fill out the FAFSA online
  • The online FAFSA has edits and skip logic to prevent you from making errors.
  • Include the appropriate Baker College school code(s):

Allen Park: E01024
Auburn Hills: E00466
Cadillac: E00461

Online: E00811
Owosso: E00464
Port Huron: E00465
Sandusky: E00465
West Branch: E01010

  • Sign your FAFSA using your PIN (parents of dependent students will also need to sign by using their PIN)

Step 3: Complete the Application Process

  • After your application is processed, you will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR) either by postal mail or e-mail. If you provided your e-mail address on the FAFSA application, you will receive an e-mail with a link to your SAR within five days. Keep this SAR in a location that you can access it when necessary. You do not need to submit this SAR to the college unless it is specifically requested.
  • Some students will be selected for verification by the Department of Education. If you are selected, you will receive a letter from the Financial Aid Office requesting certain documentation. The requested documentation should be provided quickly to ensure timely awarding by the Financial Aid Office.

If you have any questions about the financial aid process, please contact the Financial Aid Office at your campus.
