Student Server for AS/400 Courses (Vela)
The student AS/400 server is often referred to as Vela, the server name. In order to access this server, you must obtain software, called Mochasoft.
Downloading Mochasoft
You must remove any previous versions of Mochasoft, including desktop icons, before installing this software. Mochasoft is for students that are currently registered for a Baker College AS/400 class such as: CL & File Design, or RPG IV. If you are not currently registered for an AS/400 class, you will not able to access the student AS/400.
You will need to determine which version of Windows you are running. The next step is to download Mochasoft. On the left menu of this page you will see two different download options. The first download listed is for use with any version of Windows prior to Windows 7 (Vista, XP, etc.). The second is for use with Windows 7 only.
Message Queue
You will be assigned a message queue of your own for the quarter. Your assigned message queue name will be the same name as your user-id.
Output Queue
You will be assigned an output queue of your own for the quarter. Your assigned output queue name will be the same name as your user-id.
Library
You will be assigned a library of your own for the quarter. Your assigned library name will be the same name as your user-id. This library will contain all the source physical files needed for the quarter. All objects created by you during the quarter will be compiled to your assigned library. Student data will be stored in a library called STUDATA.
Source Physical Files
Your assigned library will contain 4 different source of physical files. They are as follows:
QCLSRC - For CLP source members
QRPGSRC - For RPG source members
QDDSSRC - For file, menu and display screen DDS
QCBLSRC - For COBOL source members
Printing
All print jobs will be printing to the laser printers located in the classroom. The naming convention for these printers are as follows:
2 Position Campus Code, ie: FL = Flint
1-4 Position Room Number, ie: D208 = Room D208
1 Position Printer Type, ie: H = Hewlett Packard Printer
1 Position Printer Number, ie: 1 = #1 printer in the room
A printer with the name of FLD208H1 would be created from the above example.
Since all the printers are now virtual devices there is no longer a printer defined on the AS/400. All printing must be done via IP addresses. The output queue will direct the print job to the correct laser printer via an IP address associated with the output queue definition.
