Clinton Township Awards Ed Kurtz Scholarship to Roxie Armstrong

Officials at Baker College of Clinton Township have announced Roxie Armstrong as the recipient of the 2009 Ed Kurtz Leadership Scholarship award. Armstrong received a $2,500 scholarship that is awarded to a Baker student who demonstrates academic achievement and either a commitment to community service or a successful balance of work, family and school obligations. Baker Students Observe Mock Surgical Procedure at Lansing Capitol Building

Baker College of Jackson, Port Huron, and Clinton Township surgical technologist students were present in force at the mock total knee surgical procedure held recently at the Michigan Capitol Building Rotunda. Although they did not participate in the “surgery,” the Baker students were there to support the Michigan State Assembly of the Association of Surgical Technologists’ (MSA-AST) mission to educate the public about the importance of trained and educated personnel in the operating room. Baker College of Flint Associate Dean to Present Research Findings at World Congress on Engineering

Dr. Maureen Steen, Baker College of Flint associate dean of general education, has been invited to present her research findings at the 2009 World Congress on Engineering (WCE), July 1-3, at the Imperial College, London, England. Dr. Steen's paper is titled "Correlation Study between Second/Fourth Digit Ratio, Number of Older Brothers and Mathematics Inclination in Female Pre-service Teachers." The main study looked at the relationship between the lengths of students' fingers, which is an indicator of testosterone levels, and whether or not they majored in mathematics education.
