Baker College of Allen Park will host a physical therapist assistant (PTA) refresher course on Friday, July 17, and Saturday, July 18, from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m., 4500 Enterprise Dr., Allen Park.

The two-day class, open to all graduates from an accredited PTA program, will help trained physical therapist assistants to prepare for the national licensure test. A bill requiring all PTAs to be licensed was recently passed by the Michigan legislature and signed by Governor Granholm into law.

“Licensure will help to ensure that patients in our state receive proper treatment from highly trained graduates of accredited PTA programs,” said David W. Perry, Baker College of Allen Park physical therapist assistant program chair.

The refresher course is offered through Scorebuilders, an organization that has assisted health care professionals with their preparation for licensure examinations for more than 18 years. In addition to Baker College of Allen Park, five other Michigan sites will offer the class this summer.

The PTA refresher course is free to Michigan Physical Therapy Association (MPTA) members and $275 for non-members. Seating at the Baker College of Allen Park event is limited to 60. For more information or to register, call the MPTA at 800.242.8131, or visit it online.
