Baker College Hosts Kick-Off Event on February 10 To Recruit “Champions” for Cancer Prevention Study
February 03, 2012
Goal is to sign up 50 task force members
Baker College, in partnership with the Great Lakes Division of the American Cancer Society, will host a “CPS-3 Champion” kick-off event on Friday, February 10, at 7:30 a.m., Baker College of Flint, Technology Building, 1050 W. Bristol Road, Flint. The goal is to recruit 50 area residents who will become members of the “CPS-3 Champion” task force and help spread the word about the importance of participating in Cancer Prevention Study-3, a historic nationwide study to help researchers better understand the genetic, environmental and lifestyle factors that cause or prevent cancer.
“This is an opportunity for area residents to participate in lifesaving cancer research,” said Dr. Julia Teahen, Baker College Online president and cancer survivor. “While the American Cancer Society has been conducting these types of studies for decades, their world-class research department can only study new and emerging cancer risks if members of the community are willing to become involved. That’s why we need a strong group of ‘champions’ to reach these targets. The mission of the 50 Champion recruiters will be to help enroll 500 participants for CPS-3.”
The February 10 event begins with registration and a light breakfast at 7:30 a.m., followed by the program during which task force members will receive all the information they need to help educate and recruit community members to enroll in CPS-3. The meeting will conclude at 9 a.m.
