November 04, 2010
Baker College of Allen Park has been granted full accreditation for its occupational therapy assistant (OTA) associate degree program by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE), c/o American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), located at 4720 Montgomery Lane, P.O. Box 31220, Bethesda, Maryland 20824-1220. Accreditation is valid for seven years.
“An incredible amount of hard work and dedication went into this effort,” said Aaron J. Maike, Baker College of Allen Park president. “Congratulations to the entire program staff and faculty, with special thanks to Tamara Gerber, OTA program chair. It was through her perseverance and adherence to continuous quality improvement that we successfully completed the rigorous accreditation process.”
The occupational therapy assistant is a skilled health care practitioner who works under the supervision of a licensed occupational therapist in the planning and treatment implementation of individuals affected by physical, emotional and developmental disabilities. Graduates from an accredited program are eligible to take the national certification examination.
The first group of Baker College of Allen Park OTA students will graduate this December. After successfully passing the National Certification Exam for Occupational Therapy Assistants, they become licensed to practice in the state of Michigan.
