Baker College of Allen Park Offers New Cisco Broadband/Health Care IT Program

September 13, 2011

Baker College of Allen Park is adding a new Cisco broadband/health care IT program to its curriculum this fall. The program focuses on broadband, network security, wireless and health care IT training skills necessary to fulfill job requirements in the health care IT area.

“The American Relief and Recovery Act of 2009 provides incentives to hospitals and physicians who adopt qualified, certified systems for electronic health records,” said Aaron J. Maike, Baker College of Allen Park president. “As more medical institutions implement an electronic records system, the need for certified IT health care professionals will rise accordingly. Graduates from our new program will be trained and qualified to meet that need.”

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the employment of medical records and health information technicians is expected to increase by 20 percent through 2018.

Many of the courses in Baker’s new program are based on Cisco Academy materials and curriculum. The new Cisco broadband/health care IT program prepares the student to take the Cisco CCNA, CompTIA A+, and CompTIA Network+ certifications. Upon successful completion of the Cisco Health Care IT class portion of the program (#CSC 301), students will receive the Health Information Networking Certificate from Cisco Systems.

In addition to Baker College of Allen Park, the Auburn Hills, Muskegon and Port Huron campuses will also offer the new Cisco broadband/health care IT program this fall.
