Two students from the dental assisting associate degree program at Baker College of Port Huron won awards during student day at the Michigan Dental Assistants Association (MDAA) conference. The winners included:

  • Andrew MacDonald, from Port Huron, won first place in the video presentation competition for his entry “Infection Control in Your Mouth.”
  • Nichol Stricker, from Caro, won second place in the James B. Bush speech competition. Her speech was titled: “What Does a Dental Assistant Have to Be?”

“We are so proud of Andrew and Nichol,” said Lori J. Meikle, CDA, RDA, BS, Baker College of Port Huron dental assistant program director. “They put a lot of thought and effort into their presentations, and the results are very impressive.”

This year, six dental assisting students from Baker’s Port Huron campus attended student day at MDAA’s annual event. The students, who are all members of MDAA, met other dental assisting students and browsed through exhibits. They also had the opportunity to speak with agents from job placement firms and discuss employment options with representatives from a variety of dental clinics.

The dental assisting program at Baker College of Port Huron is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) of the American Dental Association (ADA).
