Baker College Online Named Military Friendly School by G.I. Jobs Magazine
November 19, 2010

Baker College Online officials announced that it has been named a 2011 Military Friendly School by G.I. Jobs magazine. The list honors the top 15 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools that are doing the most to embrace America’s veterans as students.
“We are proud to be listed among the 2011 Military Friendly Schools by G.I. Jobs,” said Dr. Julia Teahen, president, Baker College Online. “One of our priorities is to assist individuals with military experience in obtaining a higher education. They bring maturity, diversity, leadership, and life experiences to the classroom. Other students and faculty benefit from their unique perspectives.”
The Military Friendly Schools list was compiled through exhaustive research that started last April, when the G.I. Jobs Military Friendly Schools® team polled more than 7,000 schools. G.I. Jobs administered a comprehensive survey, and an Academic Advisory Panel, comprised of five higher education administrators, helped to determine survey questions and weightings. Criteria for being selected as a Military Friendly School includes efforts to recruit and retain military and veteran students, results in recruiting military and veteran students, and academic accreditations.
The Military Friendly Schools list is an important aid for veterans and military personnel. With the passage of the Post 9/11 GI Bill, tens of billions of dollars in tuition money is now available. Veterans and active military personnel have a wide array of choices when searching for a college or university. The Military Friendly Schools list helps with information such as which higher education institution offers the greatest opportunity, flexibility and overall experience. In addition, a newly redesigned website features interactive tools and search functionality to assist military veterans in choosing schools that best meet their personal educational needs. Schools on the Military Friendly Schools list also offer additional benefits to student veterans, including on-campus veteran programs, credit for service, and scholarships for military students and veterans.
G.I. Jobs is a monthly magazine that assists veterans in seeking civilian employment and education. Published by Victory Media, Inc., a veteran-owned business, G.I. Jobs annually selects the nation’s “Military Friendly Schools” and publishes results in the annual Guide to Military Friendly Schools and on its website.
