Certified Addictions Counselor

As a Certified Addictions Counselor, you can provide the help that people who have problems with alcohol, drugs, gambling, eating disorders, or other addictions need.

In this program, you will:

  • Gain the skills and knowledge of the 12 core counseling functions required for addiction treatment, which include: screening, orientation, treatment planning, case management, client education, intake, assessment, counseling, crisis intervention, referral, and consultation with other professionals with regard to client treatment services.
  • Be prepared for a variety of positions, including inpatient and outpatient substance abuse treatment, drug courts, or private and public agencies that require a certified addictions counselor or prevention specialist.

This program provides the education hours required by the Michigan Certification Board of Addiction Professionals (MCBAP) for a Certified Addictions Counselor credential.
