Baker College’s Muskegon Campus Earns National Recognition for 20th Consecutive Year
October 25, 2016
For the 20th consecutive year, Baker College’s Muskegon campus has received the annual merit award from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) based on its surgical technology graduates passing the national certification exam on their first try. The award is presented to educational organizations for which a minimum of 90 percent of their graduates pass the Certified Surgical Technology (CST) exam during one year. The 2016 award is for the period Aug. 1, 2015, to July 31, 2016, and includes all 2015 graduates. In addition to achieving superior pass rates, all 2015 surgical technology graduates are employed in the field. The need for surgical technicians is expected to continue to grow as more operations are performed due to medical technology advances that have made surgery safer. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects employment of surgical technologists will increase 15 percent from 2014 to 2024, much faster than the average for all occupations.
