Maike accepts Owosso post

ALLEN PARK, Mich. – Baker College of Allen Park board of regents has appointed Kristine L. Barann, CPA, to succeed Aaron J. Maike as president at the beginning of the next academic year, Sept. 1, 2014.

Barann has more than 25 years of financial, consultant and managerial experience across multiple industries and is currently Baker College of Allen Park’s vice president of finance, a position she’s held for three years.

Maike has accepted the position of president of Baker College of Owosso, where he began his Baker College career in 1997. He has worked for the Allen Park campus since it opened in 2003 and was named president in 2006.

“Kris’ professional and educational experience has prepared her well to take the reins of the 3,800-student Allen Park campus,” said F. James Cummins, Baker College system president. “She has experienced the college as an instructor, a member of its board of regents and an administrator. This, combined with her extensive involvement with a variety of corporate and government entities and her positive energy, will enable her to continue Baker College’s success in achieving its single, focused goal of preparing others for meaningful careers.”

Prior to joining Baker College in 2010, Barann was involved with the campus as adjunct professor of accounting and a member of its board of regents from 2005 to 2010.
She has also worked as business manager of the Trenton Public Schools, finance director for the City of Allen Park and manager at Plante & Moran, LLC.

“I’m thrilled to continue my career at the Allen Park campus of Baker College,” said Barann. “Our current president, Aaron Maike, has done a terrific job guiding our campus, and I look forward to working with our outstanding educators and dedicated staff to continue to provide quality higher education and training in the Downriver area.”

An Allen Park native, Barann and her husband, Ed, have three children who attended Allen Park public schools, just as she did and where her father taught for 37 years. Her youngest son is a senior at Allen Park High School.

Barann graduated with honors from Michigan State University with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. She earned her CPA certificate in 1990.
