Working with very young children can be very rewarding, but what if you want to do more? If you’re a certified Michigan elementary educator with a ZA endorsement, our early childhood education ZA to ZS endorsement program can help you go further in your career. We’ve designed this program so that you’re able to get out there and start making a difference sooner.

  • Our 12-credit-hour program helps you learn the information you need to be able to take the test and apply for ZS endorsement as quickly as possible.
  • With a ZS (General and Special Education) endorsement, you’ll also be able to work with a wider age range of children in agency and private/public school settings.
  • The early childhood education ZA to ZS endorsement certificate program at Baker College is designed with advanced instructional technologies and the most proven educational approaches.

Why Study Early Childhood Education?

This program provides teachers who currently hold the ZA endorsement with the knowledge and skills needed to add the early childhood ZS (General and Special Education) endorsement. Upon completing the program and passing the required state tests, teachers will be eligible to apply for the ZS endorsement.

Curriculum

The Baker College early childhood education ZA to ZS endorsement certificate program is a one-year program consisting of 12 credit hours of major course requirements. Our curriculum includes advanced infant and toddler care and curriculum, early literacy intervention and a 120-hour teaching experience.

ECE 4010
Advanced Infant and Toddler Care and Curriculum
Description
Examines the importance of parent and caregiver relationships in developing quality care for infants and toddlers. The essentials of infant and toddler caregiving, developmental growth patterns and direct observations will be emphasized.
A 30-hour fieldwork observation is required.
ECE 4710
Early Literacy Intervention
Description
Provides essential background into speech, cultural, and linguistic and language development of young children. An emphasis will be placed on the link between home and educational environment. Home-to-school activities will be developed.
EDU 3710
Early Childhood Education ZS Practicum
Description
Focuses on planning and implementing a developmentally appropriate, child-centered classroom environment across curricular and developmental domains. Students will demonstrate competence in child assessment, group guidance, advocacy, peer collaboration and parent communication.
15 hours of lecture and 120 hours of lead teaching in a pre-school program with special needs students is required. Course assignments demonstrating subject matter and content application are required.
