If you’re a creative thinker, enjoy solving problems and have a love of science, why not turn those qualities into a career? Mechanical engineers use engineering knowledge and skills to envision and create products that make our lives better and advance society. With our bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, you’ll learn how to develop, design, test and manufacture a variety of mechanical systems, devices and processes.
Mechanical engineers are essentially inventors who turn ideas into realities. They apply the theories of mathematics and science and the principles of engineering to design, develop and manufacture the tools, machines and mechanical devices that run our world. The discipline offers a wide range of opportunities: Mechanical engineers work on projects from jet engines to highly specialized microinstruments used in surgery.
After you graduate, you’ll have a very wide range of career opportunities to choose from. Mechanical engineers work in all sorts of industries, including aerospace, robotics, transportation, biomedicine and power generation. You’ll have the freedom to take your career in any direction you choose.
The Baker College Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering program is a 4-year, ABET-accredited program consisting of 120 credit hours (90 hours of major courses and 30 hours of general education requirements). Our curriculum includes mechanics and mechanical design, thermal systems, finite element analysis, control systems, a senior design project and a 160-hour work experience with an engineering company.
If you have a bachelor in mechanical engineering you will have a job for the rest of your life. And to know that what I do can potentially save a life is very moving and motivating. It makes me want to go to work.
The Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering program is designed to provide students with the foundational skill set so that as alumni they attain competence in mechanical engineering practice in industry or in related careers in government agencies, consulting or academia, and more.
