Program Educational Objectives

The Electrical Engineering program is designed to provide students with the foundational skill set so that as alumni they attain the following educational objectives within several years after graduation:

  • Demonstrate competence in electrical engineering practice in local and global industry environments, or in related careers in government, consulting or academia.
  • Exhibit effective communication, teamwork, and readiness for leadership while acting ethically and professionally.
  • Maintain awareness of societal and contemporary issues and fulfill community and society’s needs.
  • Actively engage in lifelong learning, by completing professional development/training courses and workshops, acquiring professional licensure, or pursuing and completing an advanced degree.

Student Outcomes

By the time they graduate, students will have acquired:

  • an ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science and engineering.
  • an ability to design and conduct experiments as well as analyze and interpret data.
  • an ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs within realistic constraints such as economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, manufacturability, and sustainability.
  • an ability to function on multidisciplinary teams.
  • an ability to identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems.
  • an understanding of professional and ethical responsibility.
  • an ability to communicate effectively.
  • the broad education necessary to understand the impact of engineering solutions in a global, economic, environmental, and societal context.
  • a recognition of the need for and an ability to engage in lifelong learning.
  • a knowledge of contemporary issues.
  • an ability to use the techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools necessary for engineering practice.
  • an ability to analyze and design complex electrical and electronic devices, software, and systems containing hardware and software components.
