Why Study Marketing?

Marketers provide the link between businesses that have goods and services to sell and customers who want to purchase them. The marketing process involves a variety of activities, including research, strategic planning, product development, sales management and marketing communications.

Students in this program participate in active learning and demonstrate an understanding of basic business principles using case studies, business simulations, computer technology, spreadsheets, written reports, problem analysis, professional presentations, ethical values, a global perspective and human relations skills through individual and team activities in class and in business situations.

This degree offers a solid background in the concepts of marketing and business. A marketing degree can lead to a career in such areas as marketing management, marketing research, personal selling and sales management, retail merchandising and management and promotional strategy and management.

Curriculum

The Baker College 4+1 BBA/MBA Marketing program is a 5-year, IACBE-accredited program consisting of 141 credit hours (36 hours of major courses and 54 hours of business requirements). Our curriculum includes 30 general education credit requirements, digital marketing and strategy in a global environment.

Digital Marketing I
Description
Explores how digital advertising and social media fit into the marketing process. Introduces the concept of building brand communities by interactive, two-way communication through the objectives of theory, tactics, media and planning. Topics include strategic communication planning, digital media, social media, customer relationship management, ethics and digital marketing careers.
BUS 6600
The Marketing Environment
Description
Concentrates on the marketing concept and its impact on the strategic decision-making process of the firm. This course emphasizes planning and managing marketing activities of multi-product firms and provides an understanding of the fundamental issues which influence marketing decisions. The specifics of implementing a marketing plan are discussed. In addition, the effects of a diverse global marketplace and sources of marketing research are discussed.

Strategy in a Global Environment
Description
Provides the capstone course for the MBA program. It builds upon and integrates the theories, skills and knowledge from previous courses. Students have the opportunity to make strategic decisions that affect performance and long-term viability of business enterprises. Students will analyze the business strategies of current public corporations. Students will also complete a decision-making business simulation.

Additional Requirements

Assuming a student will choose the MBA Business Administration major, upon completing a BBA Marketing degree, he/she will need to complete additional courses to receive an MBA degree. Students will have the option of choosing another major upon admission into the MBA program. If so, the academic plan will change accordingly.

Once admitted, you will be allowed to take up to 15 MBA credit hours in your junior and senior years to fulfill the Business Elective courses requirements. The MBA credit hours will apply toward both the BBA marketing degree and MBA requirements. Please contact the Enrollment Department for admission criteria and submit applications to the Center for Graduate Studies upon completion of 60 credits toward your BBA marketing degree. A minimum 3.0 GPA is required.

In Michigan our students come from Ann Arbor, Auburn Hills, Cadillac, Dearborn, Detroit, Flint, Grand Rapids, Jackson, Lansing, Kalamazoo, Muskegon, Owosso, Traverse City, and many other locations. Beyond Michigan, our online graduates hail from Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and other states.
