Sports and Esports Curriculum

The Baker College Bachelor of Science in Sports Management and Esports Management is a 4-year, 120 credit hour program. The program includes 30 hours in general education, 60 hours in sports management, esports management and business, and 30 hours of elective courses.

Principles of Esports Management

Description
This introductory course will trace the origins of esports and examine its growth on contemporary culture. In addition, the complex framework of esports from grassroots tournaments to premier leagues will be detailed. Students will examine the key institutions, regulatory bodies, and stakeholder groups that shape the industry, ensuring its integrity, competitiveness, and sustainability. Students will develop an understanding of the roles, responsibilities, and challenges faced by esports management professionals.

Sports and Esports Live Event Planning and Management

Description
This comprehensive course merges the worlds of traditional sports and the rapidly evolving esports scene, focusing on the planning, coordination, and management of live events. Students will explore the unique demands and challenges posed by each industry while also identifying shared strategies and best practices to develop seamless and engaging events.

Sports and Esports Fan Engagement

Description
This course will examine the communities that power the sports and esports universe, developing strategies and tools for fan engagement, management, and short/long-term retention. Recognizing the unique characteristics of sports fans and esports enthusiasts, students will explore the dynamics of stadium environment, digital fandom, interactive platforms, brand loyalty, acquisition costs of fans, and fan-centric content creation.
