Information systems link business and technology to integrate all elements of an enterprise into a comprehensive network of responsive, proactive and dependable information delivery systems. As a student in our information systems with a concentration on information assurance degree program, you’ll gain an understanding of the wide range of skills it takes to work with information systems and keep data secure.

Information systems professional is one of the fastest-growing careers. Our information assurance degree is designed to integrate general business and management knowledge with expertise in computer information systems (including programming, databases, web, project management, networking, and security) to produce the knowledge and skills necessary for employment in a competitive job market.

Curriculum

The Baker College Bachelor of Science in Information Systems with concentration in Assurance Specialist program is a 4-year, 120 credit hours program. The program includes 30 hours in general education, 72 hours in the information systems major, and 18 hours in the assurance specialist concentration. Program courses include multiple programming languages, system modeling and design, business analytics, securing systems, as well as a senior project and a 150-hour work experience course.

System Modeling and Design
Description
Helps students gain the knowledge and skills required to design databases and information systems for the Web. Includes the development of data models including how to organize the modeling task, manage compromises, design for flexibility, achieve basic and advanced normalization, and develop and use generic models. Explains how to model a problem domain by abstracting objects, attributes, and relationships. Describes object-oriented approaches to model the dynamic behavior of a system in terms of state and process models. Students will construct data and object models using Entity-Relationship (ER), Unified Modeling Language (UML), and other techniques.
ITS 4050
Internet and Web Security
Description
Prepares students to understand Web and Internet security from an administrator, developer, and end user's perspective. Covers topics regarding website security, including SSL encryption and web authentication. Examines risks that threaten a site and hardware and software tools available to protect against hacking, port scanning, and denial-of-service attacks.
45 hours of lecture are required.
CIS 4990
Senior Project in Information Systems
Description
Examines the systems development process as a whole for the Information Systems field. As part of this course, students will complete a capstone project that examines the use and application of an information system for an organization.
