This program was created with input from working professionals to ensure that you learn all the skills needed to start a career in the highly rewarding field of human services.
- Through a combination of psychology, general education and human services courses, you’ll gain a well-rounded education that will allow you to work with a diverse range of people in varying circumstances.
- Once you have a bachelor’s degree in human services, you’ll be able to start a career in a meaningful role, such as case manager, direct-service social worker, mental health team member, shelter personnel or a direct care provider or supervisor.

For those who want to help improve the lives of others, human services can be a very rewarding field. The work of human services professionals centers on helping individuals cope with their everyday lives and develop the skills needed for self-empowerment. This involves working with a broad range of age groups (from infants to seniors) in a variety of settings that may include families, the elderly, substance abuse, residential programs, administration, child welfare, criminal justice, developmental disabilities, education, gerontology and health care.
With a bachelor’s degree in human services, you will have the opportunity to serve diverse populations in a variety of non-profit, private and public sectors.
Curriculum
The Baker College Bachelor of Science in Human Services degree program is a 4-year, IACBE-accredited program consisting of 120 credit hours (90 hours of major courses and 30 hours of general education requirements). Our curriculum includes ethics and issues in human services, child welfare services and two 180-hour human services internships.
