Program Highlights

Help young students develop the knowledge, behavioral, and social skills needed to succeed in their educational journey and beyond with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education.

The accelerated Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education at Baker College is a specialized program designed to prepare students for a career in elementary education and teaching. Candidates for this program will bring in 30 credit hours of general education. This program is aimed at providing aspiring educators with the knowledge, skills, and practical experiences needed to become effective teachers in preschool through grade 6. Candidates may complete this program in two years plus one semester.

  • Academic Preparation: covers educational theory, curriculum content, classroom management, and pedagogical techniques. These courses provide a strong foundation in the principles of teaching and learning.
  • Specialization: Graduates will be prepared to teach all subjects in preschool through 6th grade.
  • Practical Experience: includes over 200 hours of observation and apprenticeship prior to an extensive student teaching experience. This gives candidates hands-on experience working in multiple classrooms under the guidance of experienced educators. This practical experience is invaluable for learning how to apply theoretical knowledge in a classroom setting.
  • Certification: Upon completion of the program and the passing of required licensure examinations, graduates will be eligible to be certified by the State of Michigan in two grade bands: Preschool through grade 3, and grade 3 through grade 6.
