Haley Bodnar’s story is a shining example of how dedication and the right guidance can lead to incredible opportunities. A recent graduate of Baker College’s Radiologic Technology program, Haley landed a position at the world-renowned Mayo Clinic in Minnesota before she even graduated—a testament to her talent and the solid foundation she built during her time at Baker College.
Originally from Michigan, Haley took a leap of faith, moving to Minnesota to start her career at Mayo Clinic. “The transition was more than just a location change—it was a career move,” Haley says, reflecting on the challenges of relocating while beginning her professional journey. Being away from family was tough, but the opportunity to work at Mayo Clinic, one of the top healthcare institutions in the country, made the move worth it.
Her time at Baker College was pivotal in preparing her for this role. Haley’s program director, Chris Schmidt, played a key role in connecting her with Mayo Clinic recruiters. Through his guidance, Haley secured an informational interview, which led to her full-time job offer two months before graduation. “Chris not only introduced me to the recruiter but also provided invaluable advice for the interview process,” Haley recalls. She passed her board exams just one week after completing the program, thanks to the thorough preparation from her Baker professors.
Now, as a radiologic technologist at Mayo Clinic, Haley is thriving in a fast-paced, highly specialized environment. The training at Mayo is extensive, lasting four months and covering everything from bone imaging in outpatient settings to specialized areas like surgery and pediatrics. “Mayo’s training is designed to ensure that we become well-rounded technologists,” Haley explains.
In her role, Haley is responsible for performing diagnostic imaging, a critical part of the patient care process. “Seeing is saving,” she says, quoting Mayo’s slogan. Her work helps doctors diagnose conditions, plan treatments, and provide life-saving care. From taking x-rays that reveal fractures and abnormalities to ensuring radiation safety, Haley’s responsibilities play a vital role in patient outcomes.
Reflecting on her journey, Haley credits Baker College’s hands-on training and supportive faculty for her success. The combination of classroom learning, lab practice, and real-world clinical experience gave her the confidence to step into a high-profile role at Mayo Clinic right out of school.
Haley’s story is both exciting and inspiring, showing what’s possible with hard work, support, and the right opportunities. We’re incredibly proud of her accomplishments and can’t wait to see where her career takes her next.
