I am 40 years old, a proud mother of six children and two grandsons, and the adoptive parent of six remarkable young adults. My life has been a tapestry of challenges and triumphs, and through every hurdle, I’ve relied on faith, resilience, and perseverance to move forward. Although I’ve experienced the profound loss of both my mother and father—leaving me with moments of loneliness—I am reminded daily of the love and joy my children bring me. They are my greatest blessings and my constant source of motivation.
In 2021, I took a life-changing step and enrolled at Baker College of Muskegon to pursue my dream of becoming a registered nurse. Nursing has always been my passion—a calling to care for others and make a positive impact on their lives. I am proud to share that I am a first-generation student and on track to graduate in May 2025, a milestone that represents years of dedication, hard work, and personal growth.
The journey has not been easy. Balancing academics, family responsibilities, and personal challenges has tested my limits. However, the faculty and staff at Baker College have been instrumental in my success. They held me accountable while providing the tools, resources, and encouragement I needed to thrive both academically and personally. Their unwavering support has been invaluable, and I am deeply grateful for their guidance.
To anyone considering taking a leap of faith—whether you’re a new student, a mother juggling multiple responsibilities, or someone with a dream yet to be fulfilled—my message is this: Never give up. Take life one day at a time, stay focused on your goals, and believe in yourself. If you share my faith, trust in God, as His plan will guide you to success. With determination, patience, and hard work, you are capable of achieving anything you set your mind to.
Black History Month holds a special place in my heart. It is a time to honor the rich legacy and extraordinary contributions of African Americans to society. Too often, these achievements are overlooked. February serves as a powerful reminder of the ingenuity, resilience, and excellence our community embodies. From inventors and artists to medical professionals and leaders, African Americans have made monumental strides across countless fields.
This celebration is not just about reflecting on the past but also about inspiring the future. Let us continue to strive for greatness, uplift one another, and leave a lasting impact on the world. Together, we can honor those who paved the way and build a legacy that future generations will be proud of.
