Frequently Asked Questions

Most undergraduate and graduate programs are eligible for the discount. See the full list of programs here.

Programs that are already offered at a reduced tuition rate (Nursing RN to BSN, Nursing RN to MSN, and Master of Science Information Systems) and all Continuing Education and Lifelong Learning programs are not eligible for this discount.

Eligibility is determined upon initial enrollment to Baker College, reentry to the college if the student has not attended for one full year, or transition from undergraduate to graduate enrollment.

Students who are already enrolled are not eligible to receive this scholarship.

Students must be seeking a certificate or degree program with Baker College.

Students must maintain active enrollment (if they do not attend for three consecutive semesters, the scholarship will no longer be awarded).

Both part time and full time McLaren Oakland employees are eligible for reduced tuition.

Students receiving this scholarship are not eligible for other Baker College scholarships, grants or discounts. However, students are encouraged to complete the FAFSA to determine if they qualify for other forms of financial aid and/or student loans.

Baker College defines immediate family members as parents, children, spouses, and siblings.

Students or their family members will be required to provide proof of employment with McLaren Oakland.  This may be accomplished by providing a copy of their employer identification card, pay stub, letter from their employer, or other documentation available.

Annual verification may be required.

Part time employees are also eligible to participate.

The reduction credits 20% or 25% of your total tuition charges directly to your student account each semester. The credit applies to tuition charges only; it does not apply to fees, books or housing charges.

Please note: This credit is an institutional award. Total financial aid awards, including federal, state, and institutional funding, cannot exceed the student’s total cost of attendance.

.

McLaren provides tuition assistance toward BSN coursework in accordance with the Program guidelines.

Tuition assistance is contingent upon:

  • Continued enrollment and satisfactory academic progress
  • Continued employment in good standing
  • Compliance with all Program requirements

Tuition does not include fees, books, testing costs, or other third-party expenses
unless otherwise specified.

During participation in the Program, the Apprentice is required to:

  • Work a minimum of twenty-four (24) hours per week, equivalent to forty-eight (48) hours per pay period
  • Maintain satisfactory job performance and adherence to all McLaren policies
  • Successfully complete assigned clinical training and competency requirements

Any exceptions must be approved in writing by McLaren leadership.

Upon successful completion of the RN Apprenticeship Program and attainment of RN

  • This service commitment is a condition of the educational support provided through the Program

If the Apprentice voluntarily terminates employment or otherwise breaches the post-
completion commitment, the remaining balance of all Program-related tuition and fees paid by
Employer will be subject to repayment.

While participating in the program, the Apprentice must:

  • Maintain a minimum overall course grade of 80% each semester
  • Achieve a minimum test score of 75%
  • Participate in test-taking strategy or academic support sessions as recommended by faculty or support staff
  • Remain in good academic standing with the nursing program

If the Apprentice fails or withdraws from a course, tuition for the next scheduled
semester will be the responsibility of the Apprentice.

If the Apprentice successfully completes that subsequent semester meeting the course requirements for passing, Employer will resume tuition support in accordance with Program
provisions.

Upon graduation, the Apprentice must:

  • Sit for the NCLEX examination within sixty (60) days of graduation.
  • If unsuccessful on the first attempt, retake the NCLEX within forty-five (45) days.

Failure to pursue licensure within these timeframes may result in removal from
the Program and/or repayment obligations.

If the Apprentice does not complete the BSN Program for any reason:

  • Employment with McLaren Oakland may continue subject to standard terms, conditions, and policies.
  • Tuition repayment obligations will be calculated on an individual basis, consistent with Program guidelines.
