My name is James Lacy, and I am a proud graduate of Baker College, where I earned my degree in Business Administration in 2021. As a first-generation college graduate, my experience at Baker was truly life changing. Today, I run an insurance business dedicated to providing personalized coverage solutions for individuals and families. The education and experiences I gained during my time at Baker College have played a vital role in shaping my entrepreneurial journey.
Reflection on Baker College’s Impact:
Baker College provided me with the foundation to succeed both academically and professionally. The skills I learned, the mentors I had, and the relationships I built during my time there have all contributed to my personal growth and the success of my business. Being a first-generation graduate came with its challenges, but Baker’s supportive environment empowered me to persevere and achieve my goals.
Words of Wisdom for Current Students:
Your journey will have ups and downs, but remember that persistence is key. Embrace every opportunity to learn, network, and grow. Don’t be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone; it’s where the most valuable lessons are learned. Most importantly, take pride in every small accomplishment along the way because they all add up to something greater.
Thoughts on Black History Month:
To me, Black History Month represents an opportunity to honor the legacy of those who came before us, while inspiring future generations to continue building a legacy of excellence. It’s a time to reflect on our progress, acknowledge the challenges we still face, and celebrate the countless contributions of African Americans in shaping history, culture, and innovation. As a Black man, I see it as a call to lead by example using my platform to uplift my community, foster growth, and create opportunities for others to thrive.
