Royal Oak, MI– Baker College is thrilled to serve as a host and partner with the Royal Oak Arts Council for the inaugural Royal Oak Art Walk. Friday, August 11th, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., art enthusiasts, families, and friends will gather to immerse themselves in a world of creativity in the city’s downtown.
An evening focused on celebrating the city’s vibrant art scene, attendees will embark on a free, self-guided tour of art exhibits placed in stores, restaurants, galleries, lobbies, and the college’s common areas. This unique experience allows visitors to discover hidden gems of artistic expression as they explore various locations throughout downtown.
Housed within the Baker College Royal Oak campus located at 420 Lafayette Ave. are dozens of art pieces. Attendees will have the opportunity to interact with the artists, learn about their inspirations, and even purchase unique artwork to add to their collections. As an added indulgence, music will fill the atmosphere while visitors explore the unique seven-level state-of-the-art flagship campus which opened its doors just this past January.
“Baker College is focused on contributing both economically and socially through our student engagement and through our community involvement in the City of Royal Oak. The Art Walk helps us to focus on one of our core values: social responsibility. Partnerships like this keep us aligned with our mission and core values,” said Kelly Garrett, Baker College Royal Oak Campus Director.
In addition to the art-focused activities, attendees are encouraged to take advantage of the exceptional shopping opportunities in the area. Boutiques will showcase one-of-a-kind treasures that perfectly complement the artistic spirit of the event. Participating venues may offer beverages, hors d’oeuvres, or desserts, enhancing the evening’s fun and leisurely dynamic.
“Art can enrich our perspectives and provide a space for thoughtful discussions. An art walk ensures art remains accessible and appreciated by all members of society regardless of age, economic, or cultural background. It will bring people together from different neighborhoods within Royal Oak and strengthen our sense of community,” said Corrine Elizabeth, Royal Oak Arts Council Volunteer.
This event is sponsored by the Royal Oak Arts Council and the Royal Oak Commission for the Arts in cooperation with the City of Royal Oak and the Downtown Development Authority, and is free to the public. For more information and event updates, please visit royaloakarts.com
