Baker College Radiologic Technology student adjusting the new Del Medical OTC18M Equipment.
Baker College unveils a new addition to the Owosso Campus Radiography Lab—the installation of cutting-edge digital radiography equipment—Del Medical OTC18M ceiling-mounted tube. This marks a transformative step forward in the Radiologic Technology program, providing students with the latest technology to adequately prepare them for their career. Students will now have the opportunity to work with the same advanced technology used in real-world healthcare settings, giving them a competitive edge upon graduation.
The Del Medical OTC18M ceiling-mounted tube is a sophisticated radiographic equipment component used for capturing high-quality X-ray images. It is securely mounted on the ceiling to provide precise and adjustable positioning, allowing detailed images of various structures to be captured during diagnostic procedures.
What sets this equipment apart is its integrated DR (Digital Radiography) capabilities—the component of the x-ray system that makes the system digital. The installation of a DR/x-ray room and integrated Viewworks DR panel is a first for the Owosso RAD program. Unlike the other exam rooms in the lab, this room represents a modern upgrade in radiography technology.
This is a game-changer for Baker College. According to Dan Smith, the Director of Radiography at Baker College, this addition is a significant milestone for the program. “Perhaps the greatest benefit to the program is that this new RAD room has a ceiling-mounted overhead x-ray tube,” says Smith. “This is our first ceiling-mounted x-ray room and is the type of technology our second-year students are currently using in the clinical healthcare setting.”
Smith played a pivotal role in selecting the right technology for Baker College during his visit to the Annual Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) Conference in Chicago in November 2022. He personally assessed the equipment to ensure it aligned with the program’s needs. This is not only a significant investment in the program but also in the students’ education. This ensures that Baker College is at the forefront of radiography education, delivering the highest quality learning experience to its students.
