Baker College Nursing Instructor Kristi Cooper explains The Period of Purple Crying.
Muskegon County recently received a grant to implement a program called The Period of Purple Crying. The program is designed to educate new parents on certain behaviors during a newborn’s 6 weeks to 3 month stage in order to prevent injuries and deaths that occur due to Shaken Baby Syndrome and infant injuries during this timeframe.
Injury Prevention Coordinator for Muskegon County, Holly Alway, reached out to the School of Nursing at Baker College Muskegon to help get the program off the ground. Students Meghan Rice, Jessica Leichty, and Sarah McClure created materials and presented them at community events and childbirth classes and have trained three more nursing students to continue the program upon graduation.
