What made you choose Baker College to get your Marketing degree?
My grandmother, mother, and sister chose Baker, so it made sense for me to as well. Marketing I settled upon after an initial interest exploring it as a freelancer during a year break. I started at Baker as Vet Tech, then Culinary Arts, then Food and Beverage Management. I started the Marketing program officially 2018/2019.
What’s your favorite thing about Marketing?
I love the ability to combine a creative outlet in designing campaigns, profiles and some graphics with the analytical side of my personality with research and building out plans. One of my favorite bits has been further learning SEO and working on content writing and team leadership.
What’s your favorite memory from your time here at Baker College?
My favorite memory so far I think was during my time as a work-study for facilities. I ended up making a great friend through that and even though I am now fully remote and he is a couple of hours away we still talk fairly regularly. It has been great being able to branch out and socialize more.
Can you tell us about your internship experience?
I could not imagine being in a better internship position than here at Pearl Lemon. I found this opportunity over AngelList and had been sending out internship applications for six months before securing an interview with Deepak.
I serve as an Internal Marketing Director and the right-hand of sorts to the founder Deepak. Pearl Lemon is a fully remote-based SEO agency based in London. From the start, it was intense and really tested my abilities. The learning has not slowed and I have a wide variety of tasks and have my hands a bit everywhere through the brand. I have risen through the company and have been able to have a great deal of personal and professional growth. I lead teams and projects and tasks, I bring in new interns and continue to grow and further settle into my position. I am excited that as of May 8th I will have been with Pearl Lemon for a year. I could not recommend a better internship site for Marketing or Business students.
What are your post-graduation plans?
My post-graduation plans are to join Pearl Lemon as a full-time employee. This allows me to keep fully remote and keep all the aspects of my lifestyle I enjoy. I also will be able to grow with the company itself.
I still debate if I want to pursue my MBA in Marketing yet, but it is on the board of things I want to do.
What advice do you have for incoming Marketing students?
Start networking now- bulk up your LinkedIn and build an AngelList profile and start networking. Those two platforms have some amazing opportunities for interns and being able to get applicable experience outside of learning. Also, give a go at being a freelancer, it is a fun way to really test out your skillset.
