Girls in seventh, eighth and ninth grades from across the state of Michigan celebrated International Girls in Communications and Information Technology Day on Thursday, April 26, by building, programming and flying their own drones at six Baker College campuses.
After flying the drones, the girls reprogrammed the remote controls and flew the drones again, demonstrating how changing the programming code affects how the drone is controlled. The girls also learned how to protect their drones from cyber attacks.
“It’s always good to get young girls interested in STEM subjects early, they can pursue that interest as they go to high school, so it’s an amazing experience for someone who is twelve to be able to do this type of thing,” said Dr. Anca Sala, Dean of School of Engineering.
