Cadillac, MI — Baker College’s Cadillac campus will welcome 20 new trees as part of a community tree-planting event Friday, May 8, 2026, reinforcing the College’s commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship. The initiative is made possible through a partnership with ReLeaf Michigan and several local organizations, with volunteers invited to take part in the planting.
The new trees will enhance canopy coverage across campus, including areas near the YMCA garden, contributing to a healthier, more vibrant environment for students, staff, and the surrounding community.Trees provide a wide range of environmental and community benefits, including improving air and water quality, reducing stormwater runoff, supporting mental wellness, and enhancing the overall beauty and livability of shared spaces.
“We’re excited to bring more green space to our campus through this partnership,” said Randy Hill, EdD, Cadillac Campus Director. “Adding these trees supports our commitment to sustainability and reflects our role as an environmentally responsible campus and community partner. It’s a great example of how collaboration can create a lasting, positive impact.”
Volunteers of all experience levels are encouraged to participate. The event will begin at 8:45 a.m. at the Cadillac Area YMCA, located at 9845 Campus Drive, where participants will check in, enjoy light refreshments, and receive a brief planting demonstration from ReLeaf Michigan experts. The event will run until approximately 12:00 p.m. and will take place rain or shine. Participants are encouraged to wear closed-toe shoes and comfortable clothing, and to bring a shovel, hard rake, and work gloves if available. Families are welcome to join.
