Royal Oak, MI — As National Transfer Student Week (October 19–23, 2026) and Michigan College Month are observed this fall, Baker College is reaffirming its mission to provide students with accessible, affordable pathways to higher education. Baker is highlighting the resources and affordability options available to students looking to continue their education after earning credits at another college or university.
For students considering a transfer, the transition can come with questions about cost, credits, housing, and how quickly they can complete a degree. To support affordability initiatives, financial advisors work to identify all available federal and state aid, transferable credits, and work experience to create an affordable education that fits their budget. Baker also continues to offer its housing scholarship at its Owosso, Cadillac, and Port Huron campuses. The scholarship covers 50% of housing costs for the first two years and 25% for the third year, providing additional support for eligible students who choose to live on campus.
Additionally, in October, some Michigan colleges participate in the free application month program. Baker College participates year round, as there is no fee to apply to online or campus programs.
“Students don’t always take a straight-line path through higher education, and transferring is an important part of that journey for many students,” said Linda Katrinic, Vice President of Financial Aid at Baker College. “Baker is focused on meeting students where they are and providing accessible pathways that help them continue moving toward their educational and career goals.”
There are many scholarships available, including transfer scholarships which award up to $9000 per year for up to four years and opportunities for students with different academic and educational backgrounds. Among them is the Baker’s Bright Futures Scholarship for students who attended college more than five years ago. Baker also offers a Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship for eligible members of the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society.
“Transfer students bring experience, credits, and goals they’ve already started building, and our job is to help them turn that experience into their next step,” said Katrinic. “We want students to have a clear understanding of the financial resources available to them so they can make informed decisions about continuing their education.”
Baker College uses National Transfer Student Week as an opportunity to highlight the resources available to students who are continuing their education through a transfer pathway.
