Royal Oak, MI– Baker College is proud to announce the launch of a new brand identity, accompanied by the unveiling of its first-ever official mascot– the Baker College Bees! The selection of a mascot is a historic milestone, bridging the student-first philosophy with a new powerful representation of unity and strength.
By adopting this symbol, Baker College aims to foster a sense of cohesion and shared purpose among students, faculty, staff, and alumni. Additionally, with the rollout of the alumni community earlier this year and a varsity esports team (The Swarm) coming in 2025, the move to having a mascot shows the school’s evolution while remaining rooted in core values that have guided Baker for more than a century.
This exciting initiative marks a significant chapter in Baker College’s history, embodying the institution’s commitment to providing high-ranking educational programs and support services to create an environment where students can thrive and have limitless opportunities. The new brand and mascot are more than just symbols; they encapsulate the spirit, values, and aspirations that support the new brand purpose, Further Together.
“Our decision to introduce a new college brand stems from the realization that our visual identity should mirror the dynamic progress we’ve made as an institution. This fresh brand not only captures our commitment to our student-first philosophy, but also signals our readiness to embrace the future and provide an even more impactful experience for our students, faculty, and partners,” said Eileen Pecoraro, Baker College Vice President of Marketing and Communications.
The hive mentality perfectly symbolizes Baker College, where each campus and member of our college plays a crucial role in the success of our entire community. Like Baker College students, bees are known for their discipline, focus, and ability to overcome challenges. No matter the obstacle, bees persist.
“The decision to adopt a first-ever mascot was not taken lightly. Connecting our college, types of programs offered, and our mission to our environment led to selecting the incredible, intelligent, social, and crucial-for-society creature– the bee. Once the mascot was announced, we launched a contest to name our bee. We encourage our alumni, community partners, students, faculty and staff to vote for their favorite name that will be announced September 18,” Pecoraro said.
