Royal Oak, MI — Baker College hosted its inaugural President’s Academic Honors Events, recognizing outstanding academic achievement across multiple campuses and setting a new annual tradition of celebrating the institution’s highest-performing students. Held on three campuses (October 10, October 24, and November 7), the events brought together 51 students, each invited to bring a guest to share in the celebration.
Designed as a formal and meaningful way to acknowledge excellence, the gatherings were hosted by Dr. Jacqui Spicer, President and CEO who delivered remarks to share the significance of academic achievement and the commitment these students demonstrate each day. Dr. Spicer was joined by leadership and faculty across the college, including: Dr. Annette Horton, Chief of Staff; DaRon Hairston, Special Projects to the President; Collin Schy, Executive Assistant; Dr. Maria McCormick, Vice President for Academics; Dr. Scott Wood, Chief Information Office; Dr. Voula Erfourth, Chief People Officer; and Daniel Summers II, Vice President for Enrollment Management Services.
Each program featured a reception with food, a formal pinning ceremony, and opportunities for students to receive professional headshots—a resource they can use for future internships, job applications, or professional networking. Each honoree also received Baker College swag, adding a celebratory touch to the evening.
Students expressed deep appreciation throughout the events, noting how meaningful it felt to have their hard work recognized in such a deliberate and personal way. Many attendees shared gratitude for the acknowledgment and the memorable experience.
The President’s Academic Honors Events grew out of Dr. Spicer’s vision to formally celebrate the dedication, resilience, and academic excellence of the college’s top-performing students. With enthusiastic participation and strong positive response, Baker College has confirmed that this will now be an annual tradition.
By bringing students, faculty, and leadership together in a celebratory setting, the President’s Academic Honors Events highlight Baker College’s commitment to fostering a culture of recognition, achievement, and student success.
