Build a strong foundation for a career in healthcare with a health science associate degree.

The Associate of Applied Science in Health Science equips students with essential STEM-based skills and knowledge for success in the dynamic healthcare field. This program provides introductory healthcare industry knowledge and on-the-job skills with coursework in biology, anatomy and physiology, and pathophysiology. Why Study Health Science?

The AAS in Health Science provides hands-on training for entry into healthcare roles like medical assisting and health information technology. With the healthcare field rapidly expanding, this degree offers diverse job opportunities in various settings. It also serves as a strong foundation for further education, with many programs allowing credit transfer to a bachelor’s degree. Covering essential topics like anatomy, physiology, and healthcare ethics, this program prepares students for a rewarding and flexible career in healthcare.

Curriculum

The Baker College health science Associate of Applied Science program is a two-year program consisting of 60 credit hours (13 core health science credits, 15 general education requirement credits, and 32 health science elective credits).

Human Anatomy and Physiology I

Description
Focuses on the essential study of the body and associated terminology with a view toward the structure and function of the body parts, organs and systems and their relationship to the whole body. 45 hours of lecture and 30 hours of lab if required.

Pathophysiology

Description
Examines general disease mechanisms with an emphasis on the disease processes within each body system.

Introduction to Health Professions

Description
Provides students with a foundation for college success, as well as the exploration of various health professions and tools for career planning. Emphasizes concepts of professionalism, health care ethics and confidentiality as well as an introduction to electronic health records (EHR) and relevant medical terminology.
