Modern manufacturing is based on a combination of advanced technologies that use complex machining, automation, and robotics equipment to efficiently produce a vast array of products. Our innovative and industry-driven mechatronics degree program prepares you to work in a wide variety of settings by developing your knowledge and skills across a range of aspects of manufacturing, such as welding, machining, programmable logic control, robotics and more.

  • Developed in partnership with global technology leaders, this program combines hands-on training, real-world application and classroom studies to help you develop the skills you need to jumpstart your manufacturing career.
  • At Baker College, we’ve made balancing your education and your life less stressful, so you get you into your field with as much experience (and as little headache) as possible.
  • The Associate of Applied Science in Mechatronics degree program alternates between classroom instruction and on-the-job training in eight week intervals.

Why Study Mechatronics?

Curriculum

The Baker College Associate of Applied Science in Mechatronics degree program is a 1.5-year program consisting of 63 credit hours (48 hours of major courses and 15 hours of general education requirements). Our curriculum includes circuits, machining, industrial controls and instrumentation, PLC programming, robotics and a capstone project

Sample Courses

Industrial Controls and Instrumentation

Description
Explores automation input and output devices including AC and DC motors, variable speed drives, relays, motor starters and sizing of components for various applications. Typical control circuits are examined along with component selection and control documentation.
30 hours of lecture and 30 hours of lab are required.

Programmable Logic Controller Application

Description
Introduces the fundamentals of Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) operations, including symbology and programming techniques. PLC hardware and data structures will be presented. Methods of using the programming interface to troubleshoot applications will be emphasized. The student will write, enter, and execute application programs using the programmable controllers and Human Machine Interface (HMI).
60 hours of lecture and 60 hours of lab are required.

Capstone Project

Description
Enables the participant to demonstrate hands-on proficiency, using the training gained in this course of study to safely design, build, troubleshoot and qualify the three assigned projects. Project #1: design, troubleshoot and repair an existing, malfunctioning pneumatic system trainer. Project #2: Design, build, troubleshoot and qualify a mechanical drive trainer. Project #3: Design, build, program, troubleshoot and qualify a PLC trainer.
90 hours of lab are required.
