Psychology Program Highlights

Apply individual, group, and organizational dynamics research to identify solutions to problems that improve the well-being and performance of organizations and their employees.

This accelerated bachelors to masters program allows students to complete dual degrees in 4 years (a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Master’s in Industrial Organizational Psychology). Skill development will include an emphasis on the study of behavior and performance in the workplace and other organizational settings, with a focus on the individual, teams, and the organization as a whole.

  • Students in this dual degree program study the foundational theories and practices within the field of psychology, with a specific focus on the theories and practices within industrial organizational psychology.
  • Students will complete both the undergraduate degree in psychology and graduate degree in psychology over the course of 4 years. Within that time, students will have an opportunity to complete an internship where they will engage in the appropriate application of I/O psychology knowledge, values, and skills.

Why Earn an Industrial Organizational Psychology Degree?

Industrial organizational psychology looks at the many factors that influence recruitment, selection and placement, training and development, performance measurement, workplace motivation and reward systems, quality of work life, structure of work and human factors, organizational development, and consumer behavior. If you are interested in making a difference in the workplace, this degree will allow you to apply I/O psychology principles that can lead to improved employee performance, job satisfaction, and overall organizational effectiveness.

Psychology Curriculum

The Baker College Bachelor of Psychology/Master of Industrial Organizational Psychology is a 4-year, dual degree program where students complete their Bachelor of Science in Psychology degree and their Master of Industrial Organizational Psychology degree. Psychology courses include core psychological theory classes, including general psychology, abnormal psychology, social psychology, and specific IO-related courses: psychology of leadership, psychology of performance and motivation, organizational development, change and consultation.

Abnormal Psychology

Description
Examines symptomatology, diagnosis, and causes of various forms of psychopathology. Topics include current theory and research, ethical and social issues, and historical and current approaches to the treatment of mental illness.

Social Psychology

Description
Presents a study of individuals in the social context in which they live. Attitudes, altruism, effects of being in a group, conformity, obedience, persuasion, and interpersonal attraction are studied.

Industrial/Organizational Psychology

Description
Provides a generalized overview of the history and development of the IO psychology specialization. The theoretical underpinnings, research, models, and current applications of IO psychology will be explored. Applications to the field, at the individual, group, and organizational level will be considered. Behaviors in the workplace and other organizational settings will be examined. Major topics in IO psychology will be introduced, including personnel psychology, testing and assessment, organizational behavior and development, training, performance management, motivation, communication, leadership, and group/team dynamics.
