Why Study Marketing?

Marketers provide the link between businesses that have goods and services to sell and customers who want to purchase them. The marketing process involves a variety of activities, including research, strategic planning, product development, sales management and marketing communications.

Students in this program participate in active learning and demonstrate an understanding of basic business principles using case studies, business simulations, computer technology, spreadsheets, written reports, problem analysis, professional presentations, ethical values, a global perspective and human relations skills through individual and team activities in class and in business situations. This degree offers a solid background in the concepts of marketing and business.

By the time you complete this program, you’ll have the skills and education it takes to gain employment in entry-level marketing positions at advertising and marketing agencies or in-house marketing departments. Since many companies have in-house marketing departments, you could potentially work with businesses in a wide variety of exciting industries.

Many of our graduates go on to start careers in marketing management, personal selling, promotional strategy, retail merchandising, market research and sales management.

Curriculum

The Baker College Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing program is a 4-year, IACBE-accredited program consisting of 120 credit hours (36 hours of major courses and 54 hours of business requirements). Our curriculum includes 30 general education credit requirements, marketing strategy and design (capstone) and two 120-hour work experiences.

Business Analytics
Description
Introduces the data analysis process and the role of business decision-making. Explores qualitative and quantitative data, data vs. information, data research, relevance, validity, business intelligence tools, ethical and legal implications of data analysis, data integrity, primary and secondary data, MAIP (Measurement Analysis, Interpretation Presentation) and ethical and legal implications of data analysis.
Capstone
Marketing Strategy and Design
Description
Gives students the opportunity to participate in a course that integrates previous marketing content knowledge in a problem-based learning environment. Students will design an integrated marketing campaign, including a detailed marketing plan that incorporates a marketing code of ethics and an effective communication plan for the presentation of this integrated marketing campaign to both internal and external stakeholders. This is the capstone course of the Bachelor in Business Administration in Marketing program.

Work Experience
Description
Provides a 120-hour learning experience in an appropriate work environment structured to allow students to develop skills and gain training in their major field. Program completion based on associate or bachelor requirements may vary between programs. There may be certain course requirements that require completion prior to enrolling in the work experience course. *Note: Students in the BBA would take this course as their second required work experience.

Students interested in completing the 5-year MBA program must apply to the Center of Graduate Studies for acceptance into the program. Students considering this program should contact their academic advisor to review program requirements and acceptance criteria. A minimum 3.5 GPA is required.
