With our BeFree Tuition Guarantee, qualified undergraduate students can have their standard tuition costs covered!* This opportunity is available to undergraduate students who attend on-campus or online.
*Qualified students who are eligible for the maximum Pell Grant and enroll in an undergraduate program (associate degree, bachelor degree, or a credentialed certificate program) as a new student at Baker College may have their standard tuition costs covered for up to 5 years. This is funded through a combination of the Pell Grant, other federal and state grants the student qualifies for, and institutional funds. Students attending The Culinary Institute of Michigan, The Auto Diesel Institute of Michigan or College of Nursing Programs will be responsible to pay specialty program tuition costs that exceed standard tuition costs. The Culinary Institute of Michigan (CIM)
Join us in the kitchen with an Associate in Baking and Pastry, Culinary Arts, or Food and Beverage Management. Programs are available in Port Huron or Muskegon, Michigan.

The Auto/Diesel Institute of Michigan (ADI)
Get ready to start your career with an Associate or Certificate in Automotive Service Technology or Diesel Service Technology. Programs located in Owosso, Michigan.
BeFree Tuition Guarantee Eligibility
Whether you are a first-year student, a recent high school graduate, a transfer, an adult with minimal college experience, or have an associate’s degree from another institution, you may be eligible for the BeFree Tuition guarantee.

Applicants must:
- Be an undergraduate student
- Be pursuing a credentialed certificate, associate or bachelor degree
- Have not previously earned a bachelor degree
- Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
- Qualify for the maximum Federal Pell Grant award amount (typically income below $50,000, but varies based on family size and other information from the FAFSA application)
- Have a high school or college cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher
- Attend at least half-time
Rules & Qualifications
- The BeFree tuition guarantee is available for the Fall and Spring semesters. Summer will only be included if the program requires students to take classes during the summer semester based on the program standard academic plan.
- The amount of tuition included in this guarantee will not exceed the standard Undergraduate Programs tuition rate. Students attending The Culinary Institute of Michigan, The Auto Diesel Institute of Michigan or College of Nursing Programs will be responsible to pay specialty program tuition costs that exceed standard tuition costs.
- The BeFree Tuition Guarantee is considered Last Dollar, which means that funds and will be awarded if grants, scholarships, and other resources (federal, state, institution, employer, military or other agencies) do not cover the standard Undergraduate Program tuition. Loans are not considered in this calculation.
- Students may be responsible for fees, books, software, supplies or other program specific materials.
- The student must be a new Baker College student beginning Fall 2024 or later (students who previously attended Baker College are not eligible)
- Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and complete the verification process (if applicable)
- Enroll in an undergraduate degree or certificate program
- Qualify for the maximum Federal Pell Grant award amount (typically income below $50,000, but varies based on family size and other information from the FAFSA application)
- Attend at least half-time (six or more credit hours each semester) in classes that apply toward the student’s program
- High School Graduates – must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher by the end of their senior year
- Transfer Students – must have a college cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher
- Withdrawals and dropped classes may result in loss of BeFree Tuition Guarantee eligibility and/or increased tuition cost to students
- Continue to meet the maximum Pell Grant eligibility requirements annually
- Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) annually before May 1
- Maintain continuous half-time attendance in classes that apply toward the student’s program
- Maintain Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements
