Writing Camp: Future Writers
The goal of this writing summer camp is for high school students with an interest in writing to engage with and learn from Baker College English program directors in the areas of creative writing, public speaking, professional writing, and much more! The writing camp will consist of meaningful and fun hands-on experiences that will introduce students to the role of communication in the real world. Baker College faculty and program directors, students, and community members will collaborate in an interactive, engaging two-day camp that immerses individuals in elements of using and appreciating writing in various ways.
Creative writing summer camp mediums discussed will include memoir, poetry, playwriting, and comic book creation.
Objectives
- Explore the Exciting World of Communication: Engage in activities and real-world applications introducing participants to the importance of communication skills outside of the classroom, sparking curiosity and enthusiasm for writing, especially general communication, in all of its forms.
- Unleash Your Inner Author Brain: Encourage participants to discover their creativity with writing through fun challenges and teamwork exercises that foster confidence and teamwork skills.
- Create Lasting Memories and Friendships: Engage in a supportive and inclusive environment where students can forge new friendships and create unforgettable memories through shared experiences, laughter, and bonding activities.
- Ignite Passion for Learning: Inspire a love for learning by offering interactive activities, guest speaker engagement, and hands-on demonstrations and activities that showcase the dynamic and rewarding nature of communication, leaving students eager to explore more about writing and its impact on the world.
