Why Earn a Finance Degree?

Corporations, pension funds, insurance companies, and other organizations and individuals who make investment decisions rely on financial analysts to provide information and guidance. By applying their analytical and decision-making skills, they assess stock and bond performance, study trends, and develop portfolio strategies and recommendations to meet financial goals.

Finance Degree Curriculum

The Baker College combined BBA in finance and master's program in finance is a 4-year, IACBE-accredited program consisting of 135 credit hours. Our curriculum includes business analytics, personal financial planning and one 120-hour work experience in the field.

Financial Markets

Description
Examines the development of modern financial markets with emphasis on the factors that determine interest rates, pricing mechanisms for fixed-income securities and private and public raising of financial capital.

Personal Financial Planning

Description
Provides a comprehensive analysis of a financial portfolio including defining the purpose and the individual investments included within that portfolio to assess whether financial goals can/are being met. Students will work to specify realistic financial goals given available resources. Students will gain an awareness of the resources available and sources of income used to obtain the financial goals, as well as an understanding of the risk/reward ratio of each investment alternative.

Accounting for the Contemporary Manager

Description
Focuses on the use of financial and managerial accounting information for decision-making purposes. Topics include accounting concepts, accounting systems, preparing financial statements, product costing and overhead allocation, variance analysis, budgeting and responsibility accounting. How these topics should be applied in information-based decision making is emphasized. Case analysis is used to enhance student learning of key accounting concepts.

Additional Finance Degree Online Requirements

This 3+1 finance degree online provides an exciting pathway for you to gain a BBA finance degree and a finance master's degree in four years. Once admitted, you will be allowed to take up to 15 MBA credit hours in your junior and senior years to fulfill the business elective courses requirements. The MBA credit hours will apply toward both the finance bachelor degree and MBA requirements.

Assuming a student will choose the finance master's degree upon completing a finance bachelor degree, he/she will need to complete additional courses to receive the online master's degree in finance. Students will have the option of choosing another major upon admission into the MBA program. If so, the academic plan will change accordingly. Please contact the Enrollment Department for admission criteria and submit your application upon completion of 60 credits toward your BBA in finance. A minimum 3.0 GPA is required.
