Human Services Alumni Miguel Lockett
Miguel Lockett, MS, MA, is a Program Manager at Family Connections & Nurturing Parenting in Phoenix, AZ and a proud Baker College Alumni. Here is his story:
I attended Back College from 2008-2012 (Owosso Campus) for Human Services. I have worked throughout the social service agency within 4 different states (Arizona, Ohio, Michigan, New Jersey) since graduating. In addition, I have proceeded to obtain a double Masters since graduating (MS-Criminal Justice Forensic Psychology & MA-Human Services Counseling/Health & Wellness concentration).
I have also had the pleasure of working in the following specialized fields (foster care, transitional youth, child welfare, substance abuse, criminal justice). Currently I am a leader at a non-profit based in Phoenix, AZ servicing families throughout the whole state of Arizona. In addition, I provide trauma focused therapy for youth throughout the Phoenix Metro community.
Attending Baker has helped me build relationships that have exceeded my collegian tenure. Initially, attending College in Owosso, Michigan was a culture shock coming from the inner city of Detroit, Michigan. However, being open to new experiences and opportunities was crucial to my personal and professional growth.
Black History Month means celebrating the opportunity to live in a world that is inclusive despite the challenges of the past. It is a reflection of those that paved the way for professionals like myself.
