As Baker College celebrates National Nurses Week (May 6-12), congratulatory wishes are in order for the outstanding pass rates for pre-licensure Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) students across both traditional and accelerated programs for the calendar year 2023. With a total pass rate of 90.51% for first-time National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) takers, the College of Nursing continues to exceed both national and Michigan averages, reflecting the dedication of Baker students and the excellence of the faculty.
Dr. Maria McCormick, DNP, CPNP, CNE, Dean of the College of Nursing and Dean of the College of Health Science, attributes this success to a combination of factors that showcase the quality and commitment within the program. “Our innovative, evidence-based curriculum, delivered by highly-qualified faculty, forms the cornerstone of our students’ preparation,” says McCormick. “Their commitment to excellence and personalized attention is reflective of our student-first philosophy, which ensures our graduates are well-equipped to pass the NCLEX examination.”
In addition to the rigorous curriculum, the use of various preparation tools have been instrumental in enhancing student readiness. “By leveraging resources and providing individualized benchmarks for NCLEX success, we empower our students to identify strengths and areas for improvement, optimizing their chances of success,” adds McCormick.
Baker College’s proactive approach extends beyond the classroom, with increased tutoring services, lunch and learns, and mentoring initiatives designed to support students with their test-taking strategies. “We use early alerts to identify and provide wrap-around services for students facing additional challenges, ensuring no one is left behind,” says McCormick.
With an aggregate pass rate of 90.51% against the national average of 90.17%, Baker College surpasses national benchmarks and exceeds the required pass rate for the state of Michigan, which stands at 80%. “Our nursing program’s success in NCLEX pass rates is a testament to our holistic approach to education,” McCormick says. “I am proud of our achievements and confident in our ability to continue nurturing competent and compassionate nursing professionals.”
