Dr. Ashlie Roeder, College of Business (CoB) Program Director highlighted the distinctiveness of three programs that earned this recognition. “Our Human Resource Management program stands out for its alignment with SHRM’s (Society for Human Resource Management) Curriculum Guidebook and Template,” Roeder explained. “It aligns with one of the world’s largest HR professional societies guidelines– ensuring curriculum relevance, certification preparedness for certifications, and keeps us at the forefront of emerging industry trends.”
In the case of the Logistics program, which was rebranded as Supply Chain Management in Fall 2023, the change was prompted by industry professionals’ insights into the evolving nature of the field. Roeder stated, “Our curriculum offers students a well-rounded and global perspective, encompassing procurement, manufacturing, and decision modeling, alongside a strong foundation in management and business ethics.”
Roeder also emphasized how Baker instructors bring real-world experience and a wealth of knowledge to the classroom. “They are currently working in the field, which brings credibility and a balanced perspective. In our marketing we provide simulations and the use of current market research tools to help students not only grasp the content but also apply what they have learned in a practical context,”she said.
Dr. Brian Kowalczk, Dean, College of Information Technology and Engineering (CoITE) mentions the Computer Science program has many distinctive features. “This accolade for the Computer Science program is evidence that our continuous improvement and student-first initiatives are working. The Computer Science advisory board continually monitors industry trends, student performance, and program performance and recommends changes to ensure that the curriculum and related processes align with industry expectations,” Kowalczk said. “Our student-first philosophy ensures students have access to holistic and proactive support in both their academic and personal lives as they pursue their educational goals. Together, these two initiatives provide a high-quality and relevant curriculum with world-class support for our students.”
