Baker College announces Adam Mayhew as the new Dean of Undergraduate Business Programs for the College of Business (CoB). With a distinguished career in academia and practical business experience, his vision for the CoB focuses on inclusivity, community connection, and fostering student success through challenging programs and collaborations.
Mayhew’s professional path began after high school when he joined the U.S. Army, serving in the 3rd Infantry Division in Germany. Before joining Baker College, Mayhew served as the Dean of Undergraduate Studies at Cleary University. His academic journey also includes a role as a full-time faculty member in the Philosophy and Business Ethics department. Adam holds a Bachelor’s in Business Administration from the Forbes School of Business at Ashford University and a Master of Science in Business Ethics from the New England College of Business, with a concentration in Corporate Social Responsibility and Compliance. He is currently ABD (All But Dissertation) in his Ph.D. program at Walden University, where his research focuses on Generational Cohort Theory and Organizational Decisions.
Mayhew’s primary goals at Baker are to build and maintain high-quality academic programs and forge industry partnerships. “My vision is to create business programs that are inclusive to all students and deeply connected to the communities we serve,” Mayhew said. “This includes creating strong industry partnerships and setting rigorous yet achievable academic standards.”
Mayhew’s commitment to prioritizing student needs has been a hallmark of his career. His motto, “Take care of the students, and everything else will follow,” reflects his dedication to student success. His professional background is rooted in real-world business experiences, which continually inspire him to strive for better outcomes in business education.
“Many people enter business education because of their workplace experiences; I am no different,” Mayhew shared. “Some of my most profound moments in higher education have been in the classroom. It is a special moment when you watch students tackle a difficult topic and start to understand it.” In addition to his administrative duties, Adam will teach MGT 1010 – Introduction to Business, bringing his hands-on expertise and passion for teaching directly to the classroom which will help foster the first-year student experience.
Mayhew is also motivated by his students, especially those at the beginning of their educational journeys. He is inspired by the opportunity to make a difference in their lives and help them connect with their community.
