It’s commencement season, and there are stories within the Baker College hive that showcase resilience, diverse paths, and creative journeys. One such narrative belongs to Chelby Miller whose journey has taken her from the shores of the Great Lakes to the vibrant streets of Spain.
Chelby chose Baker College because of the positive experience her mom had while she worked toward her bachelor’s degree. Additionally, Baker’s online programs offer flexibility and access to quality professors which align perfectly with her goals, especially with a recent overseas move.
Reflecting on her time at Baker College, Chelby expresses gratitude for the impactful relationships she has developed. “I owe a lot of my growth to Baker’s faculty and staff. I have had professors and advisors go above and beyond to support me. They bring an abundance of experience in their fields, sharing both the theories of our studies and the realities of the business world. They make themselves available to answer questions, schedule Zoom meetings to check in, and provide extra instruction,” Chelby says.
Currently pursuing an MBA with a concentration in Human Resource Management, Chelby eagerly anticipates graduation. She has been a part of the hive for a while– already holding degrees in Accounting and Human Resource Management. She serves on the Alumni Ambassador & Advisory Committee and is a proud member of the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM).
As Chelby prepares to transition to the next phase of her journey, she embraces the uncertainty with resilience and optimism. “While my move to Spain has presented challenges, it has also been incredibly rewarding,” she reflects. “Every day is a learning experience, teaching me the value of embracing new perspectives and seizing opportunities.” Chelby mentions her extreme appreciation for her family who has supported her goals and been a source of encouragement throughout her entire life, especially with the decision to move abroad.
In Spain, Chelby finds solace in the warmth of its people, the richness of its culture, and the beauty of its landscapes. “I’m grateful for the support I’ve received from both my Baker College community and my newfound family in Spain,” she shares. “Amidst the challenges, there’s always something to be grateful for. I have met some amazing peers throughout my academic career who challenged me, encouraged me, and celebrated alongside me. Baker College has truly been a community of growth and empowerment,” Chelby adds.
Let us be inspired by Chelby’s commitment to “do it anyway, even if you’re scared” because boundless opportunities await those who dare to dream.
Stay tuned as we continue to spotlight the extraordinary journeys of Baker students, each story a testament to the power of perseverance and determination.
