The College of Information Technology and Engineering is excited to announce four new programs starting in fall 2024: a BS in Automation Engineering Technology, a BS in Computer Science with a concentration in Artificial Intelligence, a BS in Information Systems with a concentration in Web and Mobile Application Development, and an MS in Data Science.
“These new programs place students at the forefront of digital transformation and provide them with in-demand skills crucial for thriving in the modern workforce,” says Brian Kowalczk, Dean of the College of Information Technology and Engineering.
The BS in Automation Engineering Technology is a three-year, 120-credit-hour program that meets the rising industry demands for automation and advanced manufacturing. It focuses on practical, hands-on lab experiences and work components, training students in the design and maintenance of automated systems, including robotics, control systems, quality control, and production processes.
The BS in Computer Science (with a Concentration in Artificial Intelligence) is a 120-credit-hour program that prepares students to develop advanced tools and intelligent systems using AI. Covering AI problem-solving, knowledge management, robotics, AI perception, machine learning, and deep learning techniques, the program offers a three-year accelerated option and a standard four-year plan to accommodate different learning paces.
“In 2024 we are still seeing the effects of AI disruption. AI tools are being developed and integrated rapidly into every field to enhance efficiency and decision-making, and this trend shows no signs of slowing down,” adds Kowalczk.
The BS in Information Systems with a Concentration in Web and Mobile Application Development is a 120-credit-hour program that trains students in both the aesthetic and technical aspects of creating web and mobile applications. It covers front-end and back-end development, ensuring graduates can handle full-stack development and mobile application tasks. The comprehensive curriculum ensures a well-rounded skill set, making graduates highly employable in the tech industry.
The MS in Data Science is a 31-credit-hour program that focuses on essential skills in Python programming, data engineering and visualization, AI, machine learning, and statistical modeling. “Data science, a key component of digital transformation, is the backbone of strategic decision-making across manufacturing, technology, healthcare, and business. Our program prepares students with the tools and experience to extract meaningful insights from data that drive innovation and efficiency,” says Kowalczk.
